XCEL ENERGY CENTER ANNOUNCES WINNER OF FIFTH ANNIVERSARY TRIVIA CONTEST Winner Receives Suite for USA vs. Canada, Jerseys and Concert Tickets
SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Xcel Energy Center has confirmed the winner of its Fifth Anniversary Trivia Contest, which concluded today, the official date of the arena’s fifth anniversary.
Samantha Forrest of Rosemount, Minn. was randomly selected from entries that correctly answered all 10 trivia questions to win a suite for 30 people to the US Women’s National game vs. Team Canada on Dec. 30, a personalized Minnesota Wild and Minnesota Swarm jersey, and a pair of tickets to a concert of the winner’s choice in 2006. The trivia contest questions and answers are listed below.
“I’m so excited that I won,” said Forrest. “I’m a huge fan of the Wild and the Swarm and it’ll be a thrill to watch the women’s team before they head to the Olympics.”
The Xcel Energy Center opened with the first-ever Minnesota Wild home preseason game versus the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim on September 29, 2000. The club has sold out all 187 Minnesota Wild games (preseason, regular season and playoffs) played at the arena, and has drawn over 3.4 million fans to date.
The Xcel Energy Center’s first-ever concert featured the Barenaked Ladies on September 30, 2000 and since then has featured such performers as the Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, The Eagles, Elton John and Billy Joel, Kenny Chesney, Santana, the Three Tenors, Eric Clapton, Shania Twain, Van Halen and Tim McGraw.
In its short history, the Xcel Energy Center has played host to many great sporting events. In addition to establishing new attendance records for the WCHA Men’s Final Five, NCAA Men’s Frozen Four and Dodge World’s Toughest Rodeo, the arena has hosted the 2004 NHL All-Star Weekend, 2004 IIHF World Cup of Hockey, several Minnesota Tennis Challenges featuring John McEnroe, Andy Roddick, Monica Seles and Anna Kournikova; Tony Hawk’s Boom Boom HuckJam, Smucker’s Stars On Ice, Harlem Globetrotters and World Wrestling Entertainment.
In all, over six million fans have attended sporting events, concerts and family shows at the Xcel Energy Center.
