Xcel Energy Center and JAM Productions have announced that Weezer with special guests Angels and Airwaves and Tokyo Police Club is coming to Xcel Energy Center on Friday, October 3 at 7 PM. Weezer will tour in support of their Top 10 album “Weezer” (also referred to as “The Red Album”). The band will embark on a five-week tour, including one night only at Xcel Energy Center on Friday, Oct. 3rd. This is the band’s first tour in three years. Drummer Pat Wilson announced, “If you want to rock, you know where to find us!”
Weezer’s “Weezer” is the third self-titled album the band has released. The other two have affectionately come to be known as 1994’s “The Blue Album” and 2001’s “The Green Album.” The experimental “The Red Album” is the band’s boldest compilation, sonically and lyrically, fearlessly reaching places never before heard in popular music. The Red Album’s first single “Pork and Beans” spent 11 weeks at No. 1 at Modern Rock Radio (the longest streak for a song in 2008) and it’s accompanying video has been viewed on YouTube over 10 million times. The song is about self-empowerment, where people are urged to follow their instincts as exemplified by the lyrics, “I’m a do the things that I want to do/I ain’t got a thing to prove to you.”
Opening Weezer’s tour are Angels and Airwaves and Tokyo Police Club.
Alterative rock group Angels and Airwaves, fronted by former Blink-182 guitarist/vocalist Tom DeLonge, are currently headlining all of Warped Tour 2008 in support of their sophomore release “I-Empire.” Later this year the group plans on releasing a feature film involving their music also called “I-Empire.” Delonge said, “The Weezer tour is an amazing event, not only for us as a band, but it’s going to be the best tour of the year for fans. We’re excited to be a part of it.”
Canadian indie rock band Tokyo Police Club is taking a break from the outdoor festival circuit to tour in support of their critically acclaimed debut full-length album “Elephant Shell.” Following one of the most successful 16 minutes in recent history (2006's “A Lesson in Crime” EP) Tokyo Police Club couldn't be more thrilled to join Weezer on their North American Tour playing to crowds they've never experienced before.
This will be the third time Weezer has performed at Xcel Energy Center. Previous stops were on July 9, 2002 and Oct. 2, 2005.
